After over a decade of teasing us with prototypes and false-starts, a mobile phone manufacturer has finally delivered a 3G watch-phone with touch-screen capability... and the good news is that isn't actually not too bad at all!

The LG GC910 is a first in that it is mass-produced and available now.

The watch itself is attractive enough with a great black leather band and it feels comfortable on the skin without feeling too heavy... but its the phone features that make this stand out.

The screen is a responsive touch-screen that is accurate and sensitive. It packs Bluetooth in there so you can use a headset when taking a call and the watch even has a camera so you can video call, Skype etc.

There's a built in speaker, a voice recognition system, and a Bluetooth interface, LG’s Watch Phone can tell time, play music, take photos, work as a diary and a scheduler, read back your new text messages, make video calls and do more than you can ever imagine. No word on when they're available in Australia... but I heard a rumour that Telstra will be offering them on a plan within the next month. I, for one am looking forward to seeing them in action in the real world. The sample I got a hold of was non-working as a phone so I could only try out the features. This is no iPhone or Android phone replacement. If you want a full-featured phone and system that organises and runs your life, handles your social interactions and is an extension of your personality, then the LG GB910 is not for you.

But if you need a watch that doubles as a phone that does the basics very well, then this could be your next Xmas present to yourself.

UPDATE: The GB910 has been discountinued only days after it was announced to be coming to Australia, but a replacement Andoird-powered version is rumoured to be hitting stores within the next month!
