No SOPA for Australia: Attorney-General
Monday, 23 January 2012 15:54

The Attorney-General's Department has answered concerns from the Greens that a Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), similar to what happened in the US last week, could make it's way to Australia in time.

The bill has lost support in America after a huge amount of uproar and online protests occurred over the last few days, including Wikipedia and Reddit blacking out their entire sites in opposition to the act. Google also recorded a petition, with over 4.5 million signatures against SOPA, during this time.

Communications spokesperson for the Greens, Scott Ludlam, urged the Australian Government to speak out against the bill, saying that it would endanger the $36 billion National Broadband Network.
