Death driver jailed over latest driving convictions

GeelongCourt A Corio man involved in a car crash which claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl is behind behind bars after facing court on more driving offences.

According to the Geelong Advertiser 24-year-old MICHAEL JAMES CHAMBERS, of Cloverdale Court, has pleaded guilty to refusing a breath test, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving while disqualified after being picked up by police in the early hours of May 21 last year.

It was CHAMBERS’ fourth drink-drive conviction in five years.

In October 2005 an unregistered and un-roadworthy car driven by CHAMBERS slammed into a power pole in Geelong’s La Trobe Terrace, killing 16-year-old TAMIKA MOYLE and seriously injuring another passenger.

He was paroled in 2009 after spending three years in a youth training centre.

14 months later he was back in court on several charges including driving while disqualified, and given a suspended jail sentence.
