The National Survey of Mental Health has found that a whopping one in five Australian Adults suffer from a Mental Health issue and one in four youths will encounter a Mental Health illness. It’s an issue that often isn’t spoken about and the people suffering usually do so in silence, Leroy Brown of K-ROCK wants to create the awareness needed to open up the can of worms that is Mental Illness and get the ball rolling in people speaking about their issues and problems. Not only is it an issue for the person suffering, family member, relatives and friends of the affected can also encounter tough times trying to support them. In order to create the awareness that is much needed, Leroy has decided to broadcast live for 27 hours! In this time he will include interviews with sufferers of such mental health illnesses – depression, anxiety, anorexia, schizophrenia, eating disorders, there is a large amount of issues, and they will be addressed. Psychologists and also families affected by the illnesses will be spoken to as Leroy encourages Geelong, Werribee and the Surf Coast to open up about their issues and to talk about Mental Illness. Ricky Nixon will be live in the studio after 5pm during the broadcast to talk about his experiences with mental illness as well as other well known sufferers. The 27 hour broadcast will be starting Thursday the 29th of March, 2012 from 6am till 9am on Friday the 30th of March, 2012.
