A Werribee supermarket had to be evacuated after a man being chased by police ran into the store and armed himself with two knives.
Police say the man was wanted for questioning on suspicion of theft. It’s alleged the 44-year-old ran into the supermarket at the corner of Tarneit Rd and Shaws Road just before 12.30 yesterday afternoon, hurdling the deli counter and grabbing two knives. Police cleared the store after the man threatened to harm himself. After negotiating with police the man was eventually arrested and taken to Werribee Mercy Hospital for assessment. He’s expected to be charged on summons with theft and public transport offences. Picture: The Werribee supermarket at the centre of yesterday’s siege drama
