We’re about to be slugged more for water with Barwon Water given the green light to start charging its customers more.
The Essential Services Commission, which decides on the price of things like electricity and water, says the extra three per cent is to help the local water authority pay for the Geelong-Melbourne pipeline.
Barwon Water had asked for a three-and-a-half per cent increase across water, sewerage and trade waste prices, but the Commission has instead given draft approval for a three per cent hike in usage charges.
It’s expected to add about $15 per year to the average water bill.
The plan is now out for public comment until May 21.
There will be a public meeting in Geelong on May 14.
