THE GOOD:
- New school to be built at Doreen South
- Generous bonuses for top bureaucrats to be reviewed
- Wage rises for MPs and public servants capped at 2.5 per cent
- Train stations to be upgraded to accommodate Protective Service Officers
- New $55 million prison to be built near Caroline Springs
- Modest $155 million surplus
- Level crossings in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs to be eliminated
- Extra $336 million for child protection services
- New intensive care unit for Sunshine hospital
- Upgrade for Frankston Hospital Emergency Department
- Funding for 30 new V/Line carriages
- Myki ticketing system will not be introduced on major country rail lines until 2013
THE BAD:
- Police traffic fines to skyrocket by 27 per cent
- Speed camera fines to soar by 19 per cent
- $10 million for more speed cameras to push revenue from traffic fines to$663 million, more than half of the budget surplus
- First home owners bonus for newly built homes will be scrapped but the base $7000 first home owners grant will stay
- 600 more public servants to be sacked, taking the total to 4,400 with the treasurer admitting service delivery will be affected
- No new infrastructure projects in the immediate future
- Ted Baillieu’s election promise to build a new children’s hospital in his first term delayed again.
- Funding to renovate schools dramatically slashed
- Massive cuts to government funding for TAFE courses will affect areas such as hospitality, events and fitness
- New school at Doreen South is the only one in the state to receive funding
- $1 billion dollars slashed from government spending over the next four years
- State’s liabilities to pass $77 billion within four years
- The state’s prized AAA credit rating is under threat
THE LOCAL:
- Funding for upgrades to Geelong Performing Arts Centre
- Myki will not be introduced on the Geelong rail line until next year
- $93 million for upgrades to Geelong Hospital and to establish an integrated cancer centre at the hospital
- $8.3 million for the construction of two P-8 campuses of Northern Bay P-12 College at Wexford Road and Peacock Avenue
- $2.1 million for planning the Lara to Avalon airport rail link
- $13.6 million for a new police station and VICSES combined facility at Waurn Ponds
- $14 million for an extensive refurbishment and upgrade of buildings at Galvin Park Secondary College
- $8.4 million to plan and establish the new Grovedale Train Station
