A Hoppers Crossing man has died in hospital after his motorcycle slammed into a power pole during a police chase.
Police say the 32-year-old’s bike reached speeds of 170 kmh on the Monash Freeway on Sunday night.
They claim the chase was called off just minutes before the motorcycle collided with a pole on a freeway off-ramp.
The man was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a critical condition but died yesterday afternoon.
The road toll for this year now stands at 102, one fewer than at this time last year.
