Geelong now has the fourth longest waiting list in the state, according to the latest Health Services Performance Report.
It's revealed over 2,000 people were waiting for elective surgery at the local hospital in the last three months of 2011.
Barwon Health's blaming an unprecedented demand for emergency services, with more than 17,500 people admitted, as well as refurbishing two of its operating theatres.
Geelong Hospital also failed three out of six of its main care benchmarks:
- The number of triage Category 2 patients seen by a doctor within 10 minutes
- The number of triage Category 3 patients seen within 30 minutes
- The number of semi-urgent elective surgery patients treated within 90 days
It’s also down on the previous quarter on the number of emergency department patients transferred to a ward bed within eight hours and the number of ED patients discharged within four hours.
Meantime there’s been a drop in the number of people turning up at Werribee Mercy for treatment, but an increase in the number of people on its elective surgery waiting list.
Unlike Geelong, Werribee Mercy reached all six of its main emergency and elective care benchmarks.
