It’ll be a nervous Mothers Day weekend for maintenance staff at Qantas’ heavy maintenance base at Avalon Airport.

The airline is due to make an announcement on the fate of more than six-hundred local workers early next week.

Qantas says it’s finished a review into its three maintenance bases at Avalon, Tullamarine and Brisbane.

It’s already said it can’t afford to maintain all three.

There are reports Qantas wants nearly $50-million from the state government to retain the Avalon operation.
