Geelong’s first popularly-elected mayor could come complete with a colourful Mohawk, surgically implanted abs and a huge, err, camera, with paparazzi king DARRYN LYONS admitting he is thinking of running for the job.
Speaking from his second home in London, LYONS has revealed to K-Rock that he is considering standing.
He says he will make a final decision after he flies back to Geelong later this week.
Geelong will become the first Victorian city outside of Melbourne to have a popularly-elected mayor when the decision is taken to the people at the coming council elections in November.
LYONS made his fortune with his paparazzi business Big Pictures and has appeared on TV shows all over the world, ranging from celebrity Big Brother to Top Gear, and his supporters say his profile would be an extraordinary marketing coup for Geelong if he were to be elected.
At the moment the flamboyant millionaire’s only competition for the mayor’s job would come from current mayor JOHN MITCHELL, the only candidate so far to publicly confirm an interest in the position.
