Corio fire-fighters are leading the way in helping immigrants who’ve moved to the Geelong region.

The CFA says they've been called to many fires that have been caused by people overloading power points or using unsafe cooking methods.

Other important warnings include the dangers of placing clothing too close to heaters.

They've been holding safety sessions to talk to immigrants about the fire safety message.
