Prison detours frustrate inmates

barwonprison Barwon and Marngoneet Prisoners facing the Geelong courts are detouring via Melbourne.

While the return journey for a local court appearance should be around 26 kilometres Corrections Victoria says it's being made much longer with some prisoners stranded at Melbourne's Port Phillip Prison, or even Geelong police cells, for days.

Prisoner advocate groups say the system hampering prisoner rehabilitations.
