The Geelong Football Club has confirmed up and coming midfielder JESSE STRINGER has been arrested and questioned over the alleged assault of a young woman. Police say a 21-year-old man was taken into custody at Grovedale at around 7 yesterday morning after a complaint was received from a female. They say the man was questioned and later released without charge, pending further inquiries. The Cats have issued a statement today confirming that STRINGER is under police investigation. "Given that the matter is being investigated by the police, the club, its players and officials are not in position to make any comment until such time as the police investigation and any subsequent events arising out of the investigation have been concluded," the statement said. STRINGER was drafted by Geelong at the end of the 2009 season but a frustrating run of injuries delayed his senior debut until round 4 of 2012. He has played 8 games this season and kicked 3 goals. |
