koum1 Controversial Geelong weightlifter DANIEL KOUM has failed to secure a place for the London Olympics, and will have to defend allegations he’s brought the sport into disrepute.

The former Cameroon athlete, who secured Australian residency after disappearing during the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, won his division in the national trials in Brisbane over the weekend.

However he finished outside of Olympic contention.

Last week KOUM was accused of holding the Australian men’s team to ransom by demanding a $5,000 fee to lift at an event in Samoa.

The Australians needed KOUM to lift to ensure themselves a place in London next month.

KOUM has denied the allegation, but the Weightlifting Federation of Australia has now charged him with bringing the sport into disrepute.

If he’s found guilty he faces a lengthy ban.
