Geelong 2010 Headshots Cats' youngster NATHAN VARDY says he was told to prepare for his hip injury to be career ending.

He's told the Herald Sun his surgeon couldn't guarantee he would play again.

The good news for Geelong fans is he's back running and should play sometime in 2012.

Meanwhile DANIEL MENZEL says he could be back playing as early as round 10.

DAN, who had a knee reconstruction after rupturing his ACL in the qualifying final win over Hawthorn, says he's rehab is ahead of schedule.
