police van Two men have been charged after several weapons, including a shotgun, were allegedly found after a police chase at Grovedale at the weekend.

Police allege the drama started on Saturday morning when the pair stole a car from Wandana Heights.

It’s alleged the vehicle was later found torched in Whites Road, Mount Duneed.

A police patrol later spotted the suspects in another car and gave chase, intercepting them on the Surf Coast Highway near the old Grovedale Airport around 9:30am.

Police say one of the men tried to escape but was arrested after a foot chase.

It’s believed a former police officer who saw the incident stopped to help with the arrest.

Police say several weapons including knives and a shotgun were found in the men’s vehicle, along with a number of allegedly stolen items.

A 22-year-old Belmont man and a 20-year-old from Torquay have been charged with theft and weapons offences and have been bailed to face court in Geelong in October.
