Two men are likely to face charges after allegedly being caught trying to steal petrol from an unstaffed service station at Corio.

Police say the pair were caught in a hire truck with 6,000 litres of stolen diesel on board when they were arrested in the early hours of this morning at the Caltex outlet on Melbourne Road.

Corio police say the men are from Melbourne and are currently being questioned.
