Taser X2 Geelong police will have to wait until November to be trained in the use of new Tasers.

The dual-shot Tasers were meant to be rolled out in Geelong and Ballarat in July and are already a month overdue.

Victoria police say getting the 30 stun guns has taken longer than expected, but the force insists it's not related to funding.

The new Tasers are a safer option for both police and offenders.

The dual shot capacity means a miss can be followed up quickly with a second shot, and a visible electric arc across the front of the weapon is designed to help convince suspects to submit without the need to be shot.

The electrical system also delivers a more reliable charge, making it safer for people hit by the weapon’s probes.
