Barwon Health is taking part in a clinical trial to test a new treatment for Buruli Ulcer.
It is caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans, and is also known as a flesh-eating ulcer.
There have already been 13 reported cases in Greater Geelong so far this year, compared to 42 for the whole of 2023.

The local health authority says the trial will test a new oral therapy, that could potentially reduce the time it takes to heal the ulcers.
Anyone interested in taking part in the trial need to be aged 18 or over, and can get in touch with Barwon Health for more information.
