The start date for a long-awaited new bus route connecting the Avalon precinct with public transport has been locked in.

The new Route 18 service will commence services between Lara Station and Avalon Airport on Sunday 15 March.

The timetable for the route has been created to ensure buses arrive at the terminal 75 -120 minutes before most scheduled flight times, and depart about 30 minutes after arrivals.

Lara MP Ella George said the busy employability hub at the Avalon precinct has been taken into account.

“With thousands of people now working at the Avalon precinct, it’s so important that we have an affordable and reliable public transport option, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering with the new bus,” she said.

“The timetable has been designed to align with shift start times to help ensure that it meets the needs of people working on site.”

The new route will commence in time for the start of new flight paths between Avalon and Bali from March 23, and between Adelaide from March 26.

“This is going to mean there’s thousands more passengers travelling through Avalon Airport every year, and the new bus route will help connect people,” the local MP said.

“If they’re visiting Geelong or Melbourne it’ll help them connect into public transport, but also for local residents who want to take advantage of these new routes, it’ll be so much easier to get to the airport now.”

The changes will see the Route 11 between Lara Station and Lara East discontinued, with the existing route to be partially replaced by the new service.

More info on the new bus and its timetable can be found on the Transport Victoria website.
