Geelong’s Barwon River has been declared safe for recreational water activities over Easter.
A red alert had been issued for blue-green algae in the river between Baum’s Weir to the Lower Breakwater earlier this month.
That was due to hot weather, low water flows and high nutrient levels.

However, tests have shown a reduction in the algae and the levels are no longer a risk.
Corangamite Catchment Management Authority will continue testing and will let the public know if there are any changes.
