The Rip Curl Pro will be locked in at Bells Beach for another four years.

The current contract was due to run out later this year.

However the Victorian government has announced it has secured the popular event for the iconic break until at least 2028.

Sport Minister Steve Dimopoulos said the deal made Bells a popular surfing destination while injecting millions of dollars into the region.

“We’re proud to be locking in the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach for another four years,” he said.

“It attracts thousands of visitors to the Surf Coast region and boosting local businesses and jobs.”

The World Surf League moved the Rip Curl Pro from Bells to Newcastle in 2021, due to Covid, before its return to Bells the next year.

Meantime, surfers will not be in the water today, with the next call for the finals to be made Tuesday morning.
