A beloved mother from Corio has tragically passed away in hospital, after an alleged hit-run collision earlier this month.

43-year-old Tania was taken to hospital after being struck at the intersection of Plantation Road and Washington Street in Corio at about 6.45am on Sunday, August 11.

Police say the driver of the car left the scene before they arrived.

Detectives eventually arrested and charged an 18-year-old man from Corio, with his dangerous driving charge now upgraded following Tania’s death.

He will appear at the Geelong Magistrates’ Court in December.

Tania died in hospital just after 6pm Thursday night, with her family saying they are devastated.

“Words cannot express the devastation we feel as a family,” a statement provided to police said.

“There is no way to express the emotions we are feeling at this time and we ask the public to respect our privacy whilst the matter is being investigated.

“We are extremely thankful to the members of the public, police, paramedics, and emergency services that did all they could for Tania.

“A special thanks to the wonderful and compassionate ICU staff at the Royal Melbourne Hospital for caring for Tania in her final days.

“We are so proud that Tania’s last gift was to donate her organs so that others can continue to live their lives.”
