The bomb squad has been called in to Manifold Heights Primary School after the arrest of a man on school grounds.
Officers inspected a backpack located on the premises on Wednesday morning and declared both the bag and the scene safe.
Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the bag.
It follows an alleged burglary, a 27-year-old accused of forcing entry to the Strachan Avenue school in the early hours of the morning and stealing computer tablets.
The Geelong West man has since been charged with burglary and other related offences.
Staff and students were evacuated from a school building for a short time so police could conduct investigations.
A notice sent to parents and carers has reassured them that students are safe and well.
