Busy roads expected as tourists hit Geelong

More people are expected on local roads as tourists head to the region for holiday break.

Geelong police are also warning they will continue to be focussing on road safety as part of Operation Roadwise, which runs until January 1.

Senior Sergeant Travis Farnsworth from Geelong Highway Patrol again urged locals and visitors to pay attention.

“We encourage motorists to prepare for their journey to the region,” he said.

“That includes getting enough sleep, planning their trip and know when they’re driving.

“.. and for everyone to respect each other on the roads and again be patient to reach their destination.”

Boxing Day is traditionally a busy one on the roads as people head away after Christmas.

Two-hundred and ninety-three people have died on Victoria’s roads so far this year, 56 more than this time in 2022.
