There are calls for the Victorian government to ensure prisons have enough corrections staff.
It follows several violent incidents at Lara’s jail precinct.
One inmate was stabbed at Western Plains Correctional Centre on Sunday morning, while two inmates were stabbed last week.
There was also an assault last Thursday.
While staff put out a fire at the facility on Monday night, with an inmate and staff member taken to hospital for assessment.
No-one else was injured.
Shadow Corrections Minister Brad Battin said Labor had not filled the positions needed.
“We say to the government, as a priority, make sure you have enough corrections staff to keep the staff safe, but also to make a safe environment for the prisoners that are in there,” he said.
“Without the staff, it ends up prisoners get locked down for more hours, they become more agitated and we start to see instances we’re seeing now.”
