Car jacking in Wyndham leads to arrests

Three teenage boys have been charged and two girls are expected to be charged after a car jacking on Friday night in Wyndham.

It’s alleged a rideshare driver was attacked, with the group fleeing, before the car was later dumped.

“It is alleged a group of teens were picked up by a rideshare driver in a Mercedes SUV on Cloverdale Road about 11pm,” police said in a statement.

“They were driven to Wilandra Drive, when it’s alleged one of the passengers exited the car, opened the driver’s door and attacked him.

“It’s alleged offenders then pulled the driver out of the car, got back in the vehicle and fled the area.

“The driver, a 62-year-old Point Cook man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.”

Police say the incident continued after the vehcile fled.

“The vehicle was then observed by patrolling police units in Point Cook and followed before being tracked by the Air Wing.

“Two teenage girls were seen exiting the vehicle on The Strand and were arrested a short time later.

“Officers then followed the vehicle to Woolybush Drive, Tarneit where five offenders dumped the car and fled on foot.”

An 18-year-old from Point Cook, as well as a 15-year-old from Hoppers Crossing were located and arrested by police, while a 16-year-old from Point Cook was taken to hospital after being bitten by a police dog.

All three were charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

Two girls – a 14-year-old from St Albans and a 14-year-old from Point Cook are expected to be charged on summons with theft of a motor vehicle, while investogations continue into the other two teenagers who fled.
