Local MP Darren Cheeseman has taken leave from state parliament after being asked to resign from Labor’s parliamentary party.

Premier Jacinta Allan booted the member for South Barwon from the party, following further allegations of persistent, inappropriate behaviour towards a staff member.

However, she said police would not be called in to investigate the complaints, and refused to say what the exact nature of the allegations were.

“The allegations are of a nature that don’t require the involvement of Victoria Police,” she told media on Tuesday.

It is not known how long he will be on leave but if Mr Cheeseman does return to parliament, he will be sitting on the crossbench.

His profile on the Victorian Parliamentary website has been updated to have Mr Cheeseman listed as an Independent in the Legislative Assembly.
