Local MP Darren Cheeseman has been asked to resign as Parliamentary Secretary for Education.
Premier Jacinta Allan released a statement late Friday afternoon, saying she asked for Mr Cheeseman to resign from the role, following allegations of persistent, inappropriate behaviour towards staff in the workplace.
The member for South Barwon will remain in parliament as the local MP and a member of the Parliamentary Labor party.
Ms Allan said under the Ministerial Code of Conduct, Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are expected to behave to the highest standards.
“The wellbeing of staff and their right to a respectful workplace is not negotiable,” Ms Allan said in a statement.
Prior to being Parliamentary Secretary for Education, Mr Cheesman was Parliamentary Secretary for the Commonwealth Games.
