Sewerage pipes were blocked by flushable wipes at Eastern Beach (GEELONG BROADCASTERS).

Open fires, illegal camping and illegal parking will be targeted on Geelong’s waterfront over the Christmas break.

The City of Greater Geelong is expecting up to 10,000 people a day heading to Eastern Beach to enjoy the festive season.

The council says it will be increasing resources to ensure the area is safe and well maintained.

Portable toilets will be provided in addition to the existing public toilets, while extra bins will also be brought in.

The council says cleaners will go through the toilets and parks more frequently.

Officers will also be monitoring CCTV cameras, while the lifeguard roster at Eastern Beach is being expanded.

Traffic crews will also be on hand on forecasted peak days to avoid long queues.

Dogs will also need to be on a leash at all times.
