We now know what the smell is in the air across Geelong – chicken poo.
The environmental protection authority has cleared the air on the smell across town, saying it was caused by the use of a chicken manure-based fertilizer in the area.
The EPA says it has spoken to a contractor about its use.
“There are no long term effects from the odour, and EPA expects it to subside after having spoken with a contractor believed to have been involved in the distribution of the fertiliser,” a statement said.
“We will now work with other agencies, in particular Agriculture Victoria, to increase awareness in the sector about guidelines on how to use and store on-farm fertilizers.”
