Coastal protests against Otway Basin gas projects were held in several Great Ocean Road communities over the weekend.
A film aimed at documenting and protecting the Southern Sea Ocean was screened at the Torquay Surf Club on Friday and Apollo Bay Mechanic Hall on Saturday, to garner support for the issue.
‘Southern Blast’ is currently being screen along the East Coast and Tasmania as several multinationals gear up for mass seismic blast surveys for gas and others prepare to drill test wells in Australian Whale Sanctuary’s and migration paths.
Hundreds arrived at the Warrnambool Breakwater on Sunday to protest against the projects, beside a mass banner proclaiming “stop seismic blasting on southern sea country”.
The Surfrider Foundation is planning more actions as the weather warms and project operators progress through relevant government regulatory processes.
