Communities left reeling after road fatalities

The Greater Geelong community has been rocked by the death of a 73-year-old Drysdale woman, who died in a crash at Moolap.

Emergency services called to reports a brown Toyota Corolla and a white Mazda CX9 had collided on the Bellarine Highway, near the intersection of Whitehorse Road, around 12.30pm on Saturday.

The 73-year-old was unable to be saved, while a 65-year-old woman was airlifted to The Alfred with serious injuries, both of them passengers of the Toyota.

The car’s driver, a 69-year-old from Drysdale, was taken to hospital in Geelong with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 41-year-old Leopold woman behind the wheel of the Mazda, a male teenager, and a female child were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have been called in, the exact circumstances of the collision yet to be determined.

It was just one of five fatalities across Victorian roads over the weekend.

Three motorcyclists died, including two in Werribee and Colac West.

The road toll recorded as 126 at the time of publishing, 15 higher than this time last year.
