Commute delays flagged during West Gate works

January 8, 2024 10:13 am in by
Three months of driver delays are predicted during the next phase of works (BIG BUILD VIC).

Greater Geelong motorists travelling between Melbourne should allow up to 30 minutes extra travel time over coming months.

The delays are due to construction on the West Gate Freeway widening, it from 8 to 12 lanes, and preparation works for the opening of the West Gate tunnel in 2025.

One lane heading in each direction of the freeway between Millers Road and M80 Ring Road will be closed between January 10 and March 4.

A closure of freeway ramps at Grieve Parade and Millers Road will follow for a three-week period starting in mid-February.

The Department of Transport says 46 overhead gantries along the West Gate Freeway, M80 Ring Road and Princes Freeway will also result in overnight freeway closures over the coming months.

It’s suggested that people travelling between Geelong, Melbourne’s west and the CBD may want to consider using public transport where possible during the construction blitz.
