Council defer leave motion

Geelong council will take more time to investigate a motion to mandate leave for councillors who run for state and federal elections.

The motion was formally deferred on Tuesday, with just two councillors not backing the deferral.

Two members of council are currently seeking pre-selection for the Liberal party at the state election.

The rules would see councillors stop receive allowances and reimbursements and being forced to step aside while running for higher political offices.
