Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan could be heading overseas later this year for a UNESCO Creative City AGM.

The conference is set down for July at Braga in Portugal, with Geelong councillors to decide this week whether to approve the trip for the mayor and a council officer.

An invitation has also been extended for local delegates to visit the Portugese city of Covilha following the AGM, which is that country’s only City of Design.

Geelong was recognised as Australia’s first UNESCO City of Design in 2017.

A report to the council meeting says as Secretariat of the Geelong City of Design, it is mandatory to attend the AGM and Sub-Network meetings.

It says the mayors of Bendigo and Ballarat will be at the AGM.

The cost is expected to be $6,500 per person, which includes airfares, accommodation and some money for meals.
