Former Geelong councillor Kylie Grzybek and her husband have started cleaning up their Trinity Beach property after Cyclone Jasper crossed the Far North Queensland coast.
It hit north of Cairns as a category storm on Wednesday night, bringing with it winds of more than 100km/h and heavy rain.
It has since been downgraded as a tropical low as it tracks across land.
Ms Grzybek and Paul prepared on Wednesday by putting outdoor furniture in the pool and taping up the windows at the home.
Both are doing find, with no major damage to the property,.
“No damage to the house structurally,” Ms Grzybek said.
“The garden is a mess and the pool is overflowing but other than that, we are good.”
She also thanked the Cairns and wider community for their support and advice preparing for the storm.
“We overprepared and it (the cyclone) under-delivered, so it’s now been downgraded to a flood watch.”
Power remains out at their property, but that could be restored later today or tomorrow.
