Deakin University has this morning told staff it will not go ahead with a planned restructure of the Academic Portfolio and Infrastructure and Digital areas.
The university had said restructures were to occur that were set to result in job losses for as many as 150 people.
In an all staff email seen by Geelong Broadcasters, the university said neither change would go ahead.
The email said the council and executive were both in support of the decision, and apologised for the uncertainty the initial announcement had caused.
The email went on to say its focus on research, teaching and student support won’t change, but added the financial realities also remain.
A Deakin University spokesperson said their focus is on research, teaching and student support.
“After listening to our staff and community, we have decided not to proceed with the two proposed organisational changes,” they said.
“They were substantial and complex, and the feedback has made clear we need to rethink our approach.
“Change will still be needed in time, but it must be the right change, and we will keep listening as we work that through.”
