Victoria has been told to brace for intense heat on Tuesday, with firefighters on high alert.

Geelong is forecast to hit a top of 44 degrees, Golden Plains regions headed for 45, while areas along the Surf Coast are tipped to hit 42.

Our central district has been placed under extreme fire danger as crews continue to tackle the Carlisle River blaze threatening the Otways.

As of 9am Monday, there are three Watch and Act warnings in place for the bushfire, some communities told to monitor conditions as they are changing, while those who were told to evacuate have been warned it’s not yet safe to return.

The fire is not yet under control, with CFA Chief Jason Heffernan telling the ABC it won’t be contained before danger increases significantly on Tuesday.

Emergency services have urged people to prepare a bushfire survival plan, with more information on making a plan available on the CFA’s website.

An air quality advice warning remains in place across Geelong and the Surf Coast, extending as far as Ballarat and Melbourne, as smoke from the fire spreads and clouds much of our region.

Locals are advised to keep up to date on the VicEmergency website, on the VicEmergency app, the VicEmergency Hotline (freecall 1800 226 226), and by listening to K rock 95.5, your local emergency broadcaster.
