Four charged over copper theft

Four men have been charged following an alleged copper theft in Fyansford.

Workers at a recycling plant flagged down patrolling officers on the Hamilton Highway in the early hours of Wednesday, telling them copper was allegedly being stolen by the four males.

Police say the offenders got into a stolen 4WD and collided with a police vehicle while trying to leave.

Four men were arrested at the scene.

A 33-year-old Craigieburn man has been charged with offences including car theft and going equipped to steal.

He was remanded to face the Geelong Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The three other men, a 49-year-old from Sunshine, and a 39-year-old and 40-year-old from Albanvale have been charged with theft, car theft and going equipped to steal.

The trio were bailed to face court in October.
