Fuel prices set to climb locally

Drivers are being warned of petrol prices rising over coming weeks.

It comes with the federal government ruling out extending the excise discount.

Unleaded is selling at around $1.85 a litre at many service stations across Geelong

Peter Anderson from APCO says the company’s buying price for fuel is also going up.

“We’re going to see the 16 cent excise added soon, so it’s definitely going to go above the two dollar mark soon,” he said.

And he says now is the timer to buy.

“I wouldn’t leave it until Friday or the weekend,” he said.

“Don’t wait until the pressure is on when there is a rush.

“There’s also no guarantee that the price won’t rise in the week before that as well.

“It’s definitely best to fill up now.”

Some positive signs early this morning though, with the price of oil across the world down slightly after the USA suspended strikes on Iran.

Tehran also putting a hold on strikes on shipping in the strait of Hormuz.
