Geelong families planning on attending the final weekend of Wyndham’s spectacular Lit light show are being encouraged to fuel up before leaving home, with the cost of petrol skyrocketing on the other side of the municipal boundary.

Most petrol outlets in Wyndham are currently selling unleaded for a wallet-crunching $2.30/litre, 51 cents higher than Geelong’s best price of $1.79 at Apco’s Lara outlet.

It means motorists filling an average 60 litre tank in Wyndham will shell out $30.60 more than they would if they topped up in Geelong.

Apco is also a clear winner in Wyndham’s petrol price battle, with its Hoppers Crossing outlet in Morris Rd is currently retailing unleaded for $1.89.

Meantime thousands of families from Geelong and Wyndham are expected to head to Wyndham to see the Lit after-dark light festival at Wyndham Park before it wraps up on Sunday.

The free event runs from 8pm to 11pm each night and is accessible via the Wedge St Piazza, the Bicentennial Bridge on Comben Drive of the Skate Park on Werribee Street.

Displays include ChronoHarp, which responds to touch, and Bloom, which transforms the park with softly glowing gumnuts and flowers.

International Artist Ursula Lassos’ the Moon comprises a giant glowing moon hovering gently above the ground, while Werribee artist Teeny Fletcher has contributed a “pop surrealist dreamscape” with her piece Cosmic Reverie.
