Geelong’s own Ollie Peake has been named to captain Australia in their title defence at the ICC Under-19 men’s Cricket World Cup in 2026.
Speaking to K rock’s Tim and Davo, Ollie recalled hoisting the trophy in South Africa in 2024.
“I’m very excited to get over to Namibia and Zimbabwe, it’s such an honour to be able to lead the boys,” he said.
“Since the World Cup we had two years ago it’s been something that I’ve been hoping and dreaming to do.”
The 19-year-old has been busy already this summer, playing for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield and gearing up to play for the Melbourne Renegades.
“For as long as I can remember I’ve always had a bat in my hand, playing with my brother and my dad, then I transitioned to South Barwon Cricket Club in Geelong and now at Geelong Cricket Club, so it’s been awesome,” Peake said.
The Gades will play their first two home games of the season at GMHBA Stadium, with Ollie saying it would be extra special to play here at home.
“I have to get picked first, but it’s something that I’ve had on the calendar since it came out that there are a few games in Geelong,” he said.
“It would be so cool to play in front of everyone, to have a true home game. A lot of people talk about it being the best so hopefully I can get a game.”
Asked about the rumours the Renegades could consider relocating to Geelong, Peake said the club would get his vote.
“Absolutely they would, I’m all in for that. It would be great to have our home games at GMHBA,” he said.
Local cricket fans can catch the Renegades in action at Kardinia for the following games:
- Renegades vs Brisbane Heat at 7:15pm on Monday 15 December
- Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes at 7:15pm on Sunday 21 December
