Geelong’s growth recorded

Forty-thousand new jobs are expected to be created in Greater Geelong over the next five years.

KPMG has released its Enterprising Cities Report, finding Geelong is one of the fastest growing areas in the country.

Geelong is sitting above the national growth rate of 2.3 per cent, sitting at 3.1 per cent.

KPMG says the local unemployment rate is sitting at 3.3 per cent, below the national average of 4.2 per cent.

PAUL ROBSON from the company said Geelong had broadened beyond its traditional focus of manufacturing to embrace other sectors inclduing health and construction.

“We saw the car industry – one of the pillars of the Geelong local economy shut down and the city surge ahead in terms of growth and diversity of industries since then,” he said.

“Geelong is a place with significant business, lifestyle, industry and public sector opportunities.”
