Geelong’s sobering up centre yet to open

Geelong is yet to get its own regional sobering-up centre, more than three months after public drunkenness was decriminalised in Victoria.

Only one regional site has opened so far in Shepparton.

The state government promised eight facilities across the state.

A spokesperson has told the Herald Sun they are due to open progressively in coming months.

Police say they will encourage drunk people to get help and support from family and friends.

But officers warn any drunk people who commit a criminal offence will be dealt with.
