A teenager has been cited by police after crashing a highly modified e-bike into a car in Belmont.
The 15-year-old colliding with a Rav 4 as it reversed out of a private driveway on Francis Street around 4.10 yesterday afternoon.
Police say the girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries, but was also hit with infringement notices for unlicensed driving, using a mobile phone and riding without a helmet.
Police reminding the community that if an e-bike is modified in certain ways it becomes a vehicle.
“E-bicycles are classified as motorcycles when modified and high powered,” Senior Constable Blair Grant said.
“Our Community need to know that the penalty for unlicensed driving is $1046, using a mobile phone is $627 and 4 demerit points, and riding a motorbike without helmet is $418 and three demerit points.
“I ask that parents not enable this sort of behaviour – which could have ended a lot worse.”
