Greens candidates launch council campaign

Three locals have put their names forward to run on behalf of The Greens for this year’s Geelong council elections.

Emilie Flynn, Joey Nicita and Maddie Slater have launched their campaign.

Joey will be contesting the Hamlyn Heights ward, while Maddie will be running in the Corio ward in October.

Emilie is running in the Kardinia ward, and said the council had a number of issues that needed addressing.

“I would really like to enact some real progress on some of the council’s plans and strategies that they have the moment that aren’t moving quickly enough in my opinion,” she said.

“Things like climate change plan and the social housing strategy.”

Ms Flynn said cost of living was also a top pressure on residents at the moment.

Former councillor Stretch Kontelj announced ealier this year he was planning to run again this year.

The City of Greater Geelong will be made up of 11 single-councillor wards.
