A new parenting centre that will offer specialised services for new mums and dads is about to open its doors in Werribee.

The Wyndham Early Parenting Centre will provide advice, support and care for parents of children up to the age of four, in areas including sleep and settling, feeding and extra care requirements for babies and toddlers with additional needs.

Around half of all families who use early parenting services say they have trouble getting their babies to sleep, which can lead to other issues such as post-natal depression and parental isolation.

The new centre will provide both short and longer-term residential stay programs and features ten residential family units, as well as four day-stay places.

The residential units can cater for different family structures and can accommodate multiple children, or alternative carers such as grandparents.

Premier Jacinta Allan, who toured the Wyndham centre on Tuesday, said being a new parent is an incredible experience that can also be daunting.

“It can … be really hard in those first months and years (and) this new centre will help hundreds of families across Wyndham with sleep and settling issues, close to home,” she said.

The Wyndham facility, which is located at 239-245 Princes Highway, is one of nine new centres across Victoria.
