Heartless men steal cricketer tribute

A group of boys have caused outrage after stealing a cricket bat from a Geelong home.

The bat had been placed outside the home as part of a national tribute to teenage cricketer Ben Austin – who was killed in an accident while batting in the nets.

The tribute saw cricket lovers all over the country put their bats outside, as they had previously for Australian star Phil Hughes after his death

The homeowners posted a video to social media expressing their anger at the incident.

“When you leave your son’s cricket bat out the front to show respect for a young teenager who tragically passed away – and then it gets stolen,” a social media post said.

“If you know these kids, please have a word with them about respect. Some lessons are more important than possessions.”
